First off, I must warn that this review may not be very technical. My career does not involve computers, nor does my hobby; I'm not a gamer nor do I do heavy photo/video editing. I *do* use the computer often, and I would say I am slightly above average on computer know-how (though just barely.) So now that you know my background, here is my review:

**Pros**

1. The screen is awesome, I mean jaw dropping nice. Of course the biggest screen I had up until this point was just a 15" from a laptop so my eyes just bugged out at the display. The colors are crisp, the lines well defined. When I popped in a DVD of "Alice in Wonderland" I was amazed at how nice the picture quality was. The size of the screen allowed me to have multiple windows opened at once and I could see them without having to alt+tab through the windows.

2. The processor is fast. I looked it up on Passmark and it scored decent marks which convinced to get it. Sofar, nothing I have done has... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and reliable, October 16, 2011

This is a very good system, easy to set up and easy to use. The screen resolution is impressive. The draw back as with other manufacturers is the cheapness of only installing the student version of Office. The rear panel is compact so plan your access needs accordingly. The DVD drive is easy to use. A swivel feature would be a plus but nevertheless a very good system.

When I cracked open the box and prepared to upgrade the RAM, I quickly learned that there is no way to OPEN the computer. It is a completely sealed unit with no access panel. The only Gateway certified option I could find, locally, was BigBlueandyellow, who told me they didn't have the secret tools on site and they could to ship it to Louisville. Gateway's live-chat customer service condescendingly informed me that "upgrading RAM is an easy procedure" because they didn't comprehend that one could not GET at the RAM. Finally, I resigned myself to the realization that "upgradeable to 8GB" was a cruel hoax intended to turn me into a blithering idiot.

The only manual available at the time was for a previous model that has an access panel, so that, too, was useless.

See Jane. See Jane blither. Blither, Jane, blither.

I'd have sent the thing back, but taking it to the neighborhood computer repair shop to crack into it probably voided the warranty... Read more
